Highlights:

  • Experiencing Australia’s red centre
  • Sunset camel tour

Tour Description:
The dazzling and unique sunsets that pass over Australia’s Red Centre each day are not to be missed during any visit to Australia, and during your time in Australia, you can try a fun way to see the amazing sunsets with this Alice Springs sunset camel tour. You can add this optional excursion on to this tour of Australia visiting Alice Springs and ride off into the sunset on the back of a friendly camel.

This camel tour starts 20 minutes outside of Alice Springs, with transport provided from your accommodation to the starting point of your camel trek. You’ll arrive at the only camel farm in the Alice Springs area, where camel rides and tours are regularly operated out into the scenic Australian outback. Before you set off, the cameleer will introduce you to your friendly camel and tell you some fun facts about these hard-working animals.

After a quick introduction, it’s time to set off into the desert on your Alice Springs camel ride, joining other riders as part of a small group. The camels are very gentle and docile, meaning you can relax and fully enjoy your camel ride. You’ll see incredible views all around you across the Red Desert and out to the MacDonnell Ranges, with the sunsets changing the colour of the landscapes to a glowing red, the sky shifting from blue to dreamy oranges and pinks. Sitting atop a camel is not only a great way to travel across the desert, but also offers the perfect vantage point for some wonderful photos. You may also spot some of the local wildlife and native animals, including cute wallabies.

Throughout the one-hour camel tour, the tour guides leading your camel trek will offer you insights into their life and work cameleering throughout Central Australia: catching wild camels in the Simpson Desert, adventuring through the desert solo with only camels for company, and operating their outback camel farm. You’ll also learn about how camels have become a crucial part of people’s livelihoods out here in the outback throughout history.

After your memorable camel ride through the desert, you can stop by the camel-themed museum to learn even more about your new furry friend, as well as to purchase some camel-themed souvenirs. Light refreshments are also provided after your camel trek, including a glass of bubbly, before your transport arrives to transfer you back to Alice Springs.
