It is a rare privilege to see the beginning of the day in a city as busy and crowded as Mumbai; to witness the underbelly of Mumbai as it greets the dawn, and to gain an insight into what makes this magnificent city tick.
This early morning tour starts at the newspaper vendor distribution network, before we see Mumbai’s men and women bargaining with the wholesale fruit and vegetable sellers to pick up fresh produce for the day ahead. Our exploration continues as we reach Sassoon Docks, one of Mumbai’s oldest, to see the fishermen unloading their catch and to learn how 10 – 20 tonnes of fish arrive in the city every day. Finally, we will see glimpses of daily lives – bread-boys carrying fresh bread, the milkman riding past with milk canisters, the flower market and the fresh vegetable market. This fascinating tour more than justifies the early start to the day!
