A 4-star hotel found on The Terrace, the Grand Chancellor James Cook Hotel is our base in New Zealand’s capital, Wellington, during our tour visiting the Very Best of New Zealand. Just a 10-minute walk away, you’ll be at Wellington’s waterfront where you’ll find many of the city’s main attractions. These include the New Zealand Portrait Gallery, Wellington Museum and the Wellington Underground Market. Follow the Waterfront Walk a little further along and you’ll reach the vast Museum of New Zealand.

As well as the usual range of amenities and services on offer at the hotel, the Grand Chancellor James Cook Hotel also has several leisure facilities guests can enjoy during their stay. For some much-needed R&R, head to Absolute Bliss on the sixteenth floor: a day spa offering a range of indulgent treatments.  More active guests can sweat it out at the on-site gym, also on the sixteenth floor, providing a range of weights, machines and equipment alongside free towels and water.

Dining Options

The Grand Chancellor James Cook Hotel is home to both a restaurant offering all-day dining options and a laid-back cafe/bar for lighter refreshments and drinks.  Up on the 17th floor, Whitby’s Restaurant & Bar is where you can dine for breakfast, lunch and dinner, either buffet-style or a la carte. Load up for the day with the buffet breakfast, and live cooking stations are also available during the buffet lunches and dinners. If you’d rather dine a la carte, the evening menu features steaks, salmon, New Zealand lamb, Clevedon Coast oysters and much more. High tea is also offered during the afternoon, pairing three tiers of cakes and sandwiches with teas, premium coffee or perhaps a glass of champagne. Whitby’s also has a piano bar – a relaxed place to wind down in the evening.

For a more casual affair, head to the vibrant Sojourn Cafe & Bar, which serves food and drinks all day long. Whether you’re after a morning coffee, a light lunch or tapas to share, an evening meal or some classic cocktails, you’ll find it all at Sojourn.
