However, in order to maintain the spirit of travel of a bygone era, there are no radios or television sets on-board, so there is nothing that will disturb you truly immersing yourself in this wonderful experience.
You’ll find the observation cars at the back of the train, with their unique open-air balconies, allowing you to take in the moving landscapes that fall into your path. The lounge’s deep sofas and wingback chairs are extremely comfortable and the windows can be opened to allow in the sights, sounds and scents of Africa. It’s worth knowing that there are few, if any, luxury trains anywhere in the world which boast windows that can be opened by guests, and it has proved particularly popular when on a steam safari.
Your Pullman Suite on-board the Rovos Rail is superb and spacious, offering you a lovely opportunity to travel in privacy and comfort. Boasting the highest standard of fittings and facilities, you’ll benefit from a comfortable sofa-seat during the day which then converts into double or twin beds for the evening. You’ll also have your very own en-suite bathroom with shower, hair dryer and shaver plugs, air conditioner, heated towel rail, safe, luggage rack, fridge, tea drawer, dressing gown and slippers. Should you wish, you can also dine in your cabin, with room service available round the clock.

Meals are served in the charming Victorian dining cars. The chefs are here to ensure all guests’ needs are catered for, taking advantage of fresh local ingredients to create a selection of traditional and speciality dishes. The delicious menu is complemented by a fine selection of South African wines, which can be recommended with your dish of choice. What makes dining on-board even more special, is having an ever-changing and ever-beautiful view as you eat.
