Early in the morning we head out to explore Udawalawe National Park. Covering 30,821 hectares around the Udawalawe Reservoir fed by the Walawe River., the park is renowned for offering close encounters with elephants in their natural habitat.
In addition to elephants, the park is home to a range of wildlife including sambar deer, wild buffalo, mongooses, bandicoots, foxes, water monitor lizards, crocodiles, sloth bears and the elusive leopard. Birdwatchers can spot a variety of colourful birds along the way.
