Overview
Highlights:
- Admire the exquisite Hoysala architecture of the star-shaped Keshava Temple
- Learn about the temple’s rich history and its connection to the Hoysala dynasty
Small in scale yet extraordinary in craftsmanship, the exquisite Keshava Temple stands as one of the finest surviving examples of Hoysala architecture, comparable to the celebrated temples of Belur and Halebid. Built in 1268 and located around 33 kilometres from Mysuru, this beautifully proportioned, star-shaped temple is renowned for its remarkable attention to detail.
Every surface is richly adorned with finely carved stone sculptures, illustrating scenes from the Ramayana, Mahabharata and Bhagavad Gita, alongside depictions of the life and achievements of the Hoysala kings. Together, these intricate carvings transform the temple into a visual narrative of mythology, history and devotion, make visiting here a deeply rewarding experience for lovers of art, architecture and Indian heritage.
