Set off early for a scenic two-and-a-half-hour drive to the base of Sani Pass, the dramatic gateway to the landlocked kingdom of Lesotho, famously known as “the mountain kingdom.” Passports at the ready, we cross the border into this high-altitude land where rugged peaks, rolling valleys, and traditional villages paint a striking contrast to the lowlands of South Africa.
From here, board a robust 4x4 for a thrilling ascent up the steep, winding road of Sani Pass. As you climb higher into the Drakensberg Mountains, the scenery unfolds in sweeping vistas of jagged cliffs and deep valleys, with spectacular views back into South Africa at every turn.
At the summit, enjoy a light lunch and perhaps a refreshing drink at what proudly claims the title of the highest pub in Africa. Your specialist guide will share insights into the daily life, customs, and culture of the Basotho people, offering a fascinating glimpse into a way of life shaped by the mountains. After soaking in the vistas and local stories, we make the scenic journey back to Umhlanga, one of Durban’s most elegant suburbs, carrying memories of an unforgettable mountain adventure.
