Make a visit to Mihintale, an important site in the history of Buddhism in Sri Lanka. According to legend, King Devanampiya Tissa was converted to Buddhism here in 247 BC after encountering Mahinda, the son of Emperor Ashoka, during a deer hunt.
Explore the key sites including Ambasthale Dagoba, a significant stupa, and Naga Pokuna (Snake Pond), named for the five-hooded cobra carved into the rock above the water. After a steep climb, enjoy panoramic views from Aradhana Gala (Meditation Rock). Continue to Kaludiya Pokuna (Black Water Pond), an ancient monastic site where monks still meditate in the surrounding forest.
We end the visit at Isurumuniya Temple, built by King Devanampiya Tissa as a residence for 500 high-caste children he ordained. The temple is known for its detailed rock carvings illustrating local legends.
