Early in the morning, we depart the boat and make our way by road to the magnificent Abu Simbel Temples, taking around 4 hours. Having been relocated in its entirety in the late 1960s to avoid being submerged during the creation of Lake Nassar, the colossal statues of Ramses II frame the entrance of the rock-cut temple which seemingly rises from the desert in quiet grandeur. Once inside we explore sacred chambers and discover intricate carvings which tell stories of power and devotion.
