Highlights:

  • Glimpse into Arequipa’s past and gain an insight into the lives of nobility and cultural heritage
  • See Sabandía Mill built from sillar stone
  • Explore the green valleys of the countryside

Explore the vast countryside from the Sachaca viewpoint and see the rolling fields and terraces which span the White City, surrounded by the majestic, snow-capped volcanoes – El Misti, Chachani, and Pichu Pichu. The next stop will be the mansion of Arequipa’s founder, Garcí Manuel de Carbajal. Built in 1540 by the Jesuits, the homestead houses antique furniture and paintings from the colonial era.

Continuing the tour, see history pour into present day at Sabandía’s Old Mill where the water has been running since 1621. Throughout this day of discovery, admire flora, camelids, and a unique architecture made with the ubiquitous Arequipa white volcanic (sillar) stone – a symbol of Arequipa’s heritage.
