Borneo is renowned for its ancient rainforests, vibrant rivers, towering mountains, and rich indigenous cultures, and boasts a tropical climate, vibrant cities and pristine beaches. One of Borneo’s greatest treasures is its extraordinary biodiversity. Home to some of the oldest rainforests on earth, Borneo is an ecological marvel with rainforests offering sanctuary to unique wildlife, including the endangered orangutan, pygmy elephants, and the elusive clouded leopard.

My recent travels to Borneo blew me away with its wildlife experiences. As our boat glided along the Kinabatangan River, I was so excited to spot my first wild orangutan swinging from branch to branch. The sight of pygmy elephants carefully walking down a muddy riverbank; or huge Rhinoceros hornbill birds swooping above the trees; and with the setting sun, spectacular firefly displays; are moments I’ll treasure forever.

Borneo is hot and humid year round, remaining fairly consistently between 30 and 35 degrees. Our tours travel between March and June, and September and October, when there is least rainfall, although there is always a chance of a short downpour.
We recommend checking up-to-date weather forecasts before you travel.
Dress for our tours is generally relaxed and informal during the day, dressing to suit the weather conditions and the activity you are undertaking. It’s likely there will be occasions when exploring you’ll be walking on uneven surfaces, so we recommend sturdy and comfortable walking shoes. Wearing layers of clothing means it’s much easier to deal with potentially varied weather conditions and it’s always advisable to carry a waterproof. Any included evening dinners are also informal, with smart casual dress being the norm. We would also recommend taking good insect repellent, a high factor sun-screen lotion and a hat for protection from the sun. Local people in Borneo generally adopt a conservative standard of dress and we suggest dressing modestly.
Unlike the UK, tipping is very much a way of life in most Asian countries and we have included a number of gratuities into your tour. Tipping for your Tour Manager, local guides and drivers are not included.
Tipping is always discretionary, however if you are happy with the service provided, we would suggest the following amounts.
UK Tour Manager
£3.00 – £5.00 per person per day
Local Tour Manager
$5.00 – $7.00 USD per person per day
Borneo Local Guide
$4.00 USD per person per day
Driver
$2.00 USD per person per day
In restaurants and bars, a 10% service charge is usually included in the bill. However, an additional $1 or $2 tip is appreciated if you enjoyed the service.
