Overview
Highlights:
- Visit the sacred Tirta Empul Temple and explore the tranquil gardens
- Participate in a traditional Balinese purification ceremony
Discover the spiritual heart of Bali with a visit to Tirta Empul, one of the island’s most sacred and revered temples. Known for its holy spring waters, Tirta Empul has drawn worshippers for centuries, with thousands of Balinese and visitors alike coming each year to pray, make offerings and take part in ritual cleansing.
Explore the 9th-century temple, set amid tranquil gardens and stone shrines, we change into a sarong, either one you have brought with you or an authentic Balinese Hindu sarong provided on site. A towel and a change of clothes are recommended, as the purification ceremony takes place in the temple’s sacred waters.
Before entering the water, you will be guided through the traditional rituals that precede the ceremony. With offerings provided by your guide, you will take part in prayers asking the gods for permission and blessings to enter the holy waters. Once complete, you will step into the purification pools, where your guide will carefully explain the significance of the sacred springs and lead you through each stage of the cleansing ritual. As the cool water flows over you, it is believed to wash away negativity and restore spiritual balance and energy.
Please note: You must wear comfortable clothes, no see through clothing, shorts or athletic wear will be permitted. Please bring extra clothes, a sarong and towel.
