    Kakadu Adventure Tour

    Darwin

    Overview

    Highlights:

    • The Archway
    • Arnhem Land Escarpment
    • East Alligator Valley
    • Mikinj Valley billabongs
    • Magela flood plains

This wonderful, full day tour is ideal for experiencing the unspoilt beauty of Kakadu; taking in a truly special showcase of Aboriginal culture, rugged landscape, mighty rivers and unique wildlife. It is the blend of great ecosystems that creates the beauty of Kakadu; sandstone escarpments shaped by an unimaginable time span; monsoon forests and flood plains; great rivers; stunningly beautiful billabongs and lagoons; birds of every size, every hue and every song; fearsome crocodiles on the mudslides of billabongs; Aboriginal artwork painted on rock cave walls.

Leaving Darwin early in the day, we skirt Francis Bay on Darwin Harbour before heading out of town via Palmerston on Darwin’s outskirts. Look for massive roadtrains as we head east on the Arnhem Highway passing through the curiously named town of Humpty Doo.

We cross the Marrakai Wetlands and over the Adelaide River, home to native birdlife and crocodiles, and witness the beauty of Top End outback bush – eucalypts, palms and termite mounds.

Kakadu National Park on the South Alligator River is a vast pristine wetland and bushland habitat with significant Aboriginal culture – we will take a short guided walk to Nourlangie Rock and see ancient Aboriginal rock art.

Later, we enjoy a buffet lunch with cold meats, salad and fruit followed by a relaxing guided cruise on Yellow Water Billabong – watch out for crocodiles, brolgas, magpie geese and kites!

Our day is rounded off with a fascinating visit to Warradjan Aboriginal Cultural Centre where we will learn of the traditional ways of Aboriginal people in Kakadu.
