Highlights:
- Getting an up-close experience with the history of the battle that occurred here.
This tour takes us on a 2,5-hr drive to the heart of the Anglo-Zulu battlefields of January 1879, made famous by Michael Caine in the film “Zulu”. Isandlwana was the first-ever defeat of a British regiment by an African army. The British force of 1837 men at Isandlwana was eventually routed by the Zulu Army of almost 15000 Impis (soldiers). A breakaway group of approx 4000 Zulu warriors then marched some 6 miles to attack the mission station at Rorke’s Drift, where just over 150 British & colonial troops successfully defended the station against wave after wave of Zulu attacks. British losses at Rorke’s Drifted totalled 17 lives, whereas hundreds of Zulu warriors lost their lives. Seven Victoria Crosses were awarded to the defendants of Rorke’s Drift, the most in any single battle in British military history.
