Shimla

4-night Shimla Holiday Extension

From £795 per person

4 nights

India

Introduction

Shimla was known as the ‘Queen of the Hills’ and was the summer capital during British rule in India. Surrounded by steep forested hills falling away on all sides, and with snow-covered mountains as a backdrop, it is little wonder Shimla exerted such a magnetic influence and blossomed into a thriving British hill station.

Itinerary

Day 1: Shimla, 3 nights

An early start this morning, as we bid farewell to our fellow travelling companions and begin our journey to Shimla. At the train station, we board the Shatabdi Express train for our wonderful journey north to Kalka. On arrival in Kalka, we switch to the Himalayan toy train, a historic rail journey on a narrow gauge railway. Carriages on the toy train are small and are not air-conditioned, but this is more than compensated by the increasingly spectacular views across the lower Himalayas. On arrival into Shimla, we transfer to the fabulous Oberoi Cecil Hotel, where we will stay for the next three nights.
