Distant Journeys are proud to offer some of the world’s best rail holidays.
Instead of journeying from Kandy to Nuwara Eliya by road, travel in the style of the British during the colonial times on the original train tracks laid in 1864. Board a local train and travel through an idyllic panorama of forests, villages, tea estates and waterfalls en route to Nuwara Eliya. The train itself is a sight to see, bright blue in colour, and as it leaves behind the bustling city life of Kandy, the views become ever more stunning. Local villagers stop and wave as the train rattles by and, if you’re lucky, you’ll see the tea pickers expertly harvesting tea leaves in the plantations.
Please note the train operates subject to availability and if tickets are unavailable the journey to Nuwara Eliya will be done by road. Your luggage will be transferred to Nuwara Eliya on the group coach, so it is recommended you take a small bag with anything you require for the journey.
