Have already booked another holiday with them.Product : Fantastic holiday, exceeded our expectations! Wonderful memories made with our passionate guide Marcos and all shared with a great group of people. So many different places seen, the wonderful wildlife, and of course the unforgettable luxury of the Rovos Rail..

Service rating : The tour was well managed from booking onwards. Office team were helpful with any questions before travel and contacted us a few days prior to travel to ensure all was ok. Tour manager kept everyone to time and was very informative.Product : A great holiday offering opportunity to see lots of amazing places and animals but giving option for a more leisurely trip if desired. We chose the Ubizane Safari option and enjoyed 2 nights in the lovely Ubizane tree lodges. Saw lots of wildlife on our 3 game drives and great hippo viewing on St Lucia estuary. Would recommend the Lesotho trip if you can cope with bumpy roads. Scenery was spectacular. Victoria Falls extension allowed us to stay in lovely lodges overlooking a waterhole. Well worth it although Falls not as spectacular as could have been due to drought. A great trip with a great group of fellow travellers. Still enjoying memories through sharing on the Facebook page.
Service rating : booking process was very well explained by patient staff , pre travel docs were clear and supplied with handy wallet .Product : from the enquiry stage , thro booking to pre travel documentation then the journey the experience was end to end just top class .
Service rating : After using escorted holidays before we found Distant Journey’s last year and had a first rate service from start to finish on a month holiday in Australia. It was so good we have just used them again for a three week holiday in South Africa which was also just as good. Nothing is left to chance.Product : The whole experience was well worth it. From busy days to take in the sites such as Robin Island, Table mountain to leisurely days on Ravos Rail and Victoria Falls. They have done their homework and it showed
Service rating : My husband and I had never been on this type of holiday before so were a bit unsure of how this all worked, but we need not have been. Excellent travel arrangements throughout the three weeks in South Africa and Victoria Falls, brilliant well chosen hotels, fantastic excursions and a tour manager who certainly knew his stuff - whatever you might ask him.Distant Journeys staff were quite happy to answer any questions prior to the holiday, with a courtesy call just before we went to make sure we were all ready to go.Very sad in some ways to be back home as we really did have the trip of a lifetime and could do that all over again!Product : Excellent value for money, everything as per the brochure itinerary and sometimes more. Every day brought something different, the safaris were eye openers and we were so glad we added on Victoria Falls as that really was the highlight of the holiday - a lovely way to end our three weeks.

Everything from our initial booking through to the courtesy call at the beginning and end of our fantastic trip to South Africa was as we’ve come to expect from Distant Journeys, just perfect. To anyone thinking of booking with Distant Journeys we would say definitely do it. Be prepared to have a very busy and sometimes tiring holiday but it will be so worth it and a wonderful experience. We started our trip at Victoria Falls and also took an optional day trip to Chobe National Park in Botswana. If you’re thinking of South Africa do not miss this add on as you will have a fantastic experience both at Victoria Falls Safari lodge including a Boma dinner and at Chobe where the Elephants and all the other wonderful animals left us speechless. We also had more wonderful Safaris at Ubizane Nature Reserve. Unfortunately there was a bit of a hiccup with our accommodation there but it was just a bit of a disappointment and certainly did not spoil the holiday. When Distant Journeys were made aware they quickly responded to all concerned and we were all adequately compensated for this. Now that Distant Journeys are aware of this accommodation problem we would say that it will not happen on future trips and did not seem to be something of their making but more to do with the South African agent at the time. The rest of our holiday through the garden route and finally ending in Capetown was wonderful, all hotels were of good standard. We loved Knysna in particular, it was beautiful. Don’t miss the Gold Restaurant in Capetown if you’re looking for a great night of good food and wonderful entertainment. Eating out was a pleasure in all restaurants we visited. And very reasonably priced. Our guide Colleen gave us lots of information of dos and donts when out and about to make sure we felt safe. Just being aware really as you would be travelling anywhere in the world..We look forward to joining another Distant Journeys holiday in the future.
On 25-Feb-2019 the supplier responded:Thank you very much for your very comprehensive review of your holiday - it certainly sounds as though you fully experienced as much as you could while you were in South Africa and Victoria Falls. As you know, we did speak to our partners in South Africa following the unfortunate and unexpected miscommunication regarding Ubizane Nature Reserve accommodation, though we are glad this did not negatively impact your overall enjoyment of the holiday. We look for ward to welcoming you on another Distant Journeys holiday in the future.
Service rating : An enjoyable and well organised and planned trip with an excellent guide.Product : A most enjoyable trip and the only disappointment was the lack of animals on our second safari. Lovely hotels, well organised travel and an excellent guide.
On 04-Mar-2019 the supplier responded:We are delighted to hear you had such an enjoyable holiday and that you managed to see some fantastic wildlife, even if the second safari was not as successful.
Service rating : Loved the whole trip ...the Vic falls add on at the start was excellent, Rovos rail from Pretoria to Durban was a particular favourite of ours, lovely Knysna and my favourite city in the world ... Capetown , which has so much to offer. Our tour guide Colleen was first rate with just the right balance between information and fun .... loved it!!Product : Everything was just great
On 05-Mar-2019 the supplier responded:Well Mrs Stanley, I'm not sure how we can respond to such a wonderful review of your holiday! We are delighted that you enjoyed your time in South Africa and with the additional few days at Victoria Falls. Rovos Rail is certainly something you'll remember no doubt, as it is such a wonderful experience.
Service rating : Average - tickets were sent out late and to wrong address,Product : Holiday gave a great overview of key tourist areas of South Africa
Service rating : The Uk office have been very helpful, when needing to ask any questions.Cannot fault anything.Product : From start to finish everything was truly fantastic.
Service rating : The staff are always very helpful and friendly and do their best for you as their customers.Product : I'm glad our first hotel The Irene was used instead of the Sheraton in Pretoria. It was a beautiful place to stay for our first 2 days and having seen the Sheraton when in Pretoria it was definitely the right choice for them to change hotels. The Safari Lodge was a beautiful place to stay with the animals all around. The trips included were also interesting and enjoyable The Southern Sun Waterfront in Cape Town I was expecting to be opposite the sea like the one in Durban so was a little disappointed. I also had to change rooms in both these hotels. The trips I took I also enjoyed and we had very good guides on those. Maggie our guide for the whole trip was excellent and very helpful with quite a few problems with coach and plane breakdowns which were out of everyone's control.
Service rating : Superb staff, very friendly and at all times helpfulProduct : An absolute superb holiday from start to finish, and very well organised. Our tour manager, Gertie Tuinder, was excellent, very friendly, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Would you please pass on our regards. If we have one complaint, it was that on some days we felt that we were rushed with trying to visit so many venues in one day. But overall the trips the scenery and the wild life was spectacular. We must say that the Irene Country Lodge that you chose to replace the Sheraton hotel in Pretoria was a master stroke, as it was one the best hotels we stayed in during our trip.On the down side the Rex hotel in Knysna was not up to the same standard, the location was excellent, the rooms were good but the dining area for breakfast was poor, not large enough for the amount of guests that wanted breakfast at the same time.Thank you for a superb holiday, and we would not hesitate to recommend you to our friends and family.Kind regardsAnne and Graham Barnett
Service rating : The Staff at UK Office were very professional and efficient at all times. Special thanks to Alex for all of her help and guidance.Product : A fantastic holiday that gave us a real flavour of South Africa. This trip went to the "Top of our list"
Service rating : My only complaint was when my trip, I asked how many other Single people would be on my chosen tour and was told they couldn't tell me.As it happened there was one other lady in the group. I see no reason they couldn't have told me that.Product : It was a marvellous tour taking me to places I wished to see.The guide was very organised & efficient, sometimes a little too!!!Hotels were mostly amazing.I think perhaps some days could have been less frantic, trying to see so much in a day was sometimes very tiring. I wasn't the only one that felt that.
Terrific itnerary and well organised trip throughout. Fantastic guide and a holiday that will live long in the memory-only what we have come to expect from Distant Journeys.
From first booking our holiday the service has been excellent, the various people I spoke to were very professional, knowledgeable and friendly. I would have no hesitation in recommending Distant Journeys to friends and family interested in this type of holiday. The tour arrangements suited our needs exactly, we particularly enjoyed a minimum of 3 nights in each location. In addition the choice of hotels was first class, the tours also were very well chosen and not too hectic, allowing "free time" in between.
Service rating : All communication is dealt with efficiently and all staff are friendly and helpful.Product : The holiday was well organised and was accurately described in the brochure. Truly memorable.
Service rating : Always friendly and efficient. Nothing is to much trouble.Product : We had a great time and was looked after all the way through our stay. We felt like we had five star treatment.

Service rating : Great organised trip, have already recommended and would definitely travel using them againProduct : It was wonderful enjoyed the trip very much
Service rating : Service was excellent and paperwork was always very detailed. When changes were made to the itinerary I was given a full explanation.Product : I saw everything that was iconic and the service from everyone connected to the tour was first rate.
Service rating : Any and all enquiries dealt with immediately and ultra courteously. Lovely staff.Product : Victoria Falls was out of this world and the Lodge was exceptional in every way. Rovos Rail was utterly incredible - service immaculate and food and drink perfect. The safaris have given us lifelong memories. South Africa was amazing. Cape Town especially good. Knysya gorgeous.
Service rating : Always friendly and helpful on the phone. Easy to pre-book excursions and travel pack wallet was useful.Product : The holiday was well organised and we saw so many aspects of this fascinating country. It was a very busy tour with early starts which took some getting used to. The local tour guide was very informative and the coach travel and standard of hotels was excellent. We had three safari trips and saw many animals. The safari lodge was very good. The only city which we didn't enjoy was Durban but we found Cape Town and the surrounding area a lovely start to the holiday.
Service rating : I made some enquiries by phone and e-mail. I was replied to without delay with full information, and felt I was being given full attention.Product : A full and busy holiday covering a lot of ground. Great hotels and our guide was marvelous
Service rating : I would certainly recommend them as they provided an excellent service and the whole holiday was enjoyable and fascinating.I have been to Australia and now South Africa, Zimbabwe & Botswana with them. All trips have been excellent with informative and very personable Tour Managers.Product : A wonderful time with wonderful travelling companions.Lots of unforgettable sights seen.Wonderful memories.
Service rating : I had already holidayed in South Africa with another company but after this trip I felt I really had come to know enjoy and love the country. Never once did I feel that I had done this before. I learnt so much, saw so much and really had a much more in depth experience.Product : The tour was organised so that we had time to enjoy every stop. Five nights in Cape Town might seem a lot at the start but it wasn’t. I could easily have enjoyed more. The hotel was well sited and I felt safe exploring on my own. Last time I was here the rep recommended taxis etc etc. Not good for a couple let alone a solo traveller. Ours suggested lots of places to visit and I couldn’t fit them all in.
Great holiday great service have already recommended to friends.
Service rating : Very good in most areas and would use againProduct : very good in time and days in each place, excellent tour guide. Balanced itinary and meals provided.
Service rating : Excellent service from initial booking to post holiday query. Used this company two years ago for the "Wonderful Australia" tour & again recently for the "Spectacular South Africa & Victoria Falls" tour. Nothing is too much trouble for this amazing company. Always there to answer any questions & to help out in any way. No hesitation in recommending them to everyone.Product : Just returned from an amazing tour of South Africa which left me spellbound. Five nights in Cape Town where we explored Table Mountain, the history of the city, Robben Island & the lovely Victoria & Alfred waterfront. My highlight was touring the Cape Peninsula with the seals on Deiker Island & the colony of penguins at Boulders Bay. What a treat also to reach the Cape of Good Hope where I left a little bit of my heart. Thoroughly enjoyed the trip to the Cape wine lands of Franschhoek & Stellenbosch. Sad to leave Cape Town but next on the agenda was the journey through the Dutoitskloof Pass with the beckoning Drakenstein Mountains in all their splendour. Our destination was the beautiful "Garden Route". After travelling through the wild vegetation known as "Little Karoo" country we reached Mossel Bay & eventually our lovely boutique hotel "The Rex" in Knysna. Situated by a lagoon & picturesque harbour we spent a few idyllic days in the sun. Onwards & upwards we were off again to visit the ostrich farm in Oudtshoorn & the famous Cango Caves. Departing from Knysna we headed to the Storm River estuary & gorge where we walked to the famous suspension bridge followed by a lunch overlooking the Indian Ocean. Off now to catch our flight from Port Elizabeth to Durban in Kwazulu Natal. Our wonderful hotel here overlooked the Indian Ocean with a breakfast view to die for. After a couple of days it was time for the group to split. Half travelled on Rovos Rail in sheer luxury whilst we travelled North to the Safari Tree Top Lodge in Hluhluwe. I thought things couldn't get better but they certainly did. Three land safari's & one water safari later we had seen all of the wonderful animals at close proximity. Time now to fly to Pretoria to meet the other group. The Irene Country Hotel was set beside a lake & ideal for us. After a day touring the sights of this city some of our fellow guests were flying home. We had extended our tour, thank goodness to fly up to Victoria Falls, for three days. The Safari Lodge here was situated in the bushveld & we could see all the wild animals from our balcony. Whilst here, my friend Sue & l, did a four hour horseback safari in the Bush, a walking tour of Victoria Falls & I managed to also squeeze in a helicopter tour of the Falls. I would highly recommend adding the extension to the South Africa Tour as the vision of the falls will leave you speechless. The final day we opted to go to Chobe National Park in Botswana for another great land safari followed by a water safari to see the herds of wild elephants on the waterfront. To sum up this three week amazing adventure using just one word. WONDERFUL. I shall certainly return to this spectacular country which has stolen my heart. Thank you Distant Journeys for your excellent planning, itenary & wonderful guides. Maggie Gibson was marvellous imparting her knowledge & I can even speak a little zulu language now. I can't wait to plan a PowerPoint presentation of my three week tour to show others all my lovely photos to everyone.
