Distant Journeys offer a fantastic range of must-visit holiday locations. Have travelled on four holidays to date and just booked another. The holidays comprise a good combination of great locations to visit and stay, great cultural highlights, provide freedom days and wonderful guides.

This was an excellent itinerary, with great local guides, and a immersive experience as China is such a country of contrasts. This was our first DJ experience and will not be our last. The standard of accommodation was excellent and just what was required after a busy day. Freedom days were much appreciated to give us a chance to do our own thing, after a number of intensive and informative days. Everything ran smoothly, thanks to Bob Sharp, our Tour Manager, who appeared to be able to anticipate our queries and questions before we asked!
A degree of stamina and fitness is required to make the most of this tour but we and our fellow travellers were up for the challenge.
It was an experience that will last in the memory!

Quick and easy to deal with.

It was lovely visiting China with Distant Journeys. We visited the Great Wall, the Terracotta Museum and the Pandas as well as lots of other places. The Three Gorges Dam was exceptional and so was the River Cruise. We would certainly recommend China.

Excellent all around. Very comfortable hotels, good balance of tourism and enough relaxation time. Fantastic guide who was very knowledgable, engaging and flexible to take in diversions to accommodate the group’s wishes.

Very diverse itinerary including places other tour companies don’t visit. Big group of 35 but nice to share experience with strangers who became friends after 3 weeks together.
Knowledgeable tour manager accompanied us the whole time, so we didn’t have to worry about anything.
Lots of travelling involved on bullet trains and flights, covered over 3000miles. Not a relaxing trip by any stretch of the imagination because it was very full on with some early mornings, but very exciting and very enjoyable..

Great experience all the way through - even though the weather was against us on the safari it didn’t ruin our experience

Very well organised. Good guides. You cover a lot of ground as it's a big country. Hotels were excellent. Even the extra trips were well organised. The safari is a highlight with 3 safari runs included.

Amazing adventure, well organised and expertly led. Maybe a tendency to try to pack too much in - there are some very long days (4am starts). It is hard work - and you need to be prepared for this.

The extension to Goa was near the end of monsoon. We had torrential rain and the beach was nothing like you'd imagine. Rooms were dated and the canteen, sorry restaurant, was loud music and noisy.

The whole experience from sart to finish was excellent. The hotels were luxurious and the holiday completely met our expectations. The local guide was absolutely amazing

A First-Class Journey Through Japan with Distant Journeys

Our holiday to Japan with Distant Journeys was truly first class. From the initial contact through to the end of the tour, everything was well organised and met our expectations. We chose a direct flight from Heathrow to Tokyo, a long 14-hour journey, but it suited us well. Upon arrival, we were met promptly and transferred to our hotel, setting the tone for a smooth experience.

Throughout the tour, we stayed in a range of mostly 4-star hotels, which were generally satisfactory. While Japanese hotel rooms tend to be smaller than those back home, they were perfectly adequate for our needs. Breakfast was included at every hotel, offering a mix of Japanese and European options, a thoughtful touch that catered to all tastes.

Our tour manager and local guides were exceptionally knowledgeable and quickly built a strong rapport with the group. The itinerary was comprehensive, covering iconic destinations such as Tokyo, Lake Yamanaka, Mount Fuji, Takayama, Kanazawa, Kyoto, Fushimi Inari Shrine, Hiroshima, Miyajima, and Osaka to name just a few. We had ample time to explore and appreciated the balance of guided activities and free time.

One point to note, the coach would drop us off on the outskirts of attractions, requiring a 10 to 15-minute walk. While manageable for most, this could be challenging for slower walkers or those with mobility concerns. Thankfully, our tour manager was attentive and made adjustments where possible, but it’s something to consider when booking.

In summary, this was a well-executed tour led by experienced professionals. It was our fourth holiday with Distant Journeys with the fifth already booked for February which speaks volumes about our trust in the company. We wholeheartedly recommend the Very Best of Japan tour to others seeking a memorable and enriching travel experience.

The tour was a great introduction to China which I had never visited before. We did a lot of travelling by train so we saw not just the towns but also the countryside., and got an insight into how vast China is and how populated it is with huge tower blocks of flats everywhere.

Excellent tour with lots if "wow!"moments. Visited all th main attractions, GreatWall, Terracotta Army, Giant Pandas, Shanghai etc. Some amazing scenery as well. Would have given it 5 stars but the tour manager was a big disappointment
