Holiday was extremely well organised. The guides were very knowledgeable. Fair play to the driver for getting us from city to city as the traffic is utterly manic. My criticism would be that we were taken to a marble factory, a jewellery factory and carpet factory which were not listed on the itinerary. The purpose of the visit to these factories was to sell to the tourists. In future these visits should be an option. Also on the itinerary it said we would visit India gate and all we did was drive past it with the coach slowing down for us to see it.

I really enjoyed the tour. Our guide was great. Very knowledgeable and he, our driver and bus assistant looked after us very well. The tour offered a varied experience of both Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Hotels were lovely as was the food. I dropped a star as the houseboat stay was a disappointment. The backwaters were beautiful but the boat was shabby with poor facilities and spoiled one of the experiences I was most looking forward to.

The holiday was fantastic, beyond expectations. However I think that too much was crammed in to our allotted time and there were one or two things we couldn’t do largely because the distances we travelled were too great for us and the drivers. We often arrived late for lunch, safaris and especially the boat trip on Lake Naivasha which, quite honestly, was a waste of time. The two guides we had were great drivers and very knowledgeable but there was a tremendous amount of pressure on them which my group certainly thought was too great. I’m not sure how you would overcome this and that is for Distant Journeys to work out. The tour of Nairobi was disappointing. We were taken on a very limited walk by a group of guys who gave us the hard sell about projects they were involved in which needed money to sustain….maybe a bus tour might have shown us more of the city and been more successful. The hot air ballon was a highlight which no-one should miss (although it was expensive!). All in all, a fantastic holiday!!

This rating is solely in respect of the safari element of the holiday which was excellent in all aspects including the wildlife, accommodation and food. The extension in Mombasa, if it was possible to rate this separately, would have scored 3 stars at most. The resort didn’t seem to know we were arriving and we had a lengthy wait for accommodation to be found. The half board package only includes the Horizon dining area - the 2 a la carte restaurants are at an additional cost and the other 2 “restaurants” are the Poolside Bistro and beach front pizza parlour. The food in the Horizon was appalling being cold and with many options empty and no-one seemingly responsible for re-filling them. A tremendous disappointment after the excellence of the safari with the resort as a whole being described by one of our fellow tourists as “Butlinesque”.

Super holiday, you need to be fit to keep up with the itinerary but the early starts and the high daily number of steps is worth it to see all the sights and experiences that India has to offer. Golden Triangle and Ranthambore with Shimla Extension
Holiday was extremely well organised. The guides were very knowledgeable. Fair play to the driver for getting us from city to city as the traffic is utterly manic. My criticism would be that we were taken to a marble factory, a jewellery factory and carpet factory which were not listed on the itinerary. The purpose of the visit to these factories was to sell to the tourists. In future these visits should be an option. Also on the itinerary it said we would visit India gate and all we did was drive past it with the coach slowing down for us to see it.

I really enjoyed the tour. Our guide was great. Very knowledgeable and he, our driver and bus assistant looked after us very well. The tour offered a varied experience of both Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Hotels were lovely as was the food. I dropped a star as the houseboat stay was a disappointment. The backwaters were beautiful but the boat was shabby with poor facilities and spoiled one of the experiences I was most looking forward to.

Very Best of Kenya with Mombasa
The holiday was fantastic, beyond expectations. However I think that too much was crammed in to our allotted time and there were one or two things we couldn’t do largely because the distances we travelled were too great for us and the drivers. We often arrived late for lunch, safaris and especially the boat trip on Lake Naivasha which, quite honestly, was a waste of time. The two guides we had were great drivers and very knowledgeable but there was a tremendous amount of pressure on them which my group certainly thought was too great. I’m not sure how you would overcome this and that is for Distant Journeys to work out. The tour of Nairobi was disappointing. We were taken on a very limited walk by a group of guys who gave us the hard sell about projects they were involved in which needed money to sustain….maybe a bus tour might have shown us more of the city and been more successful. The hot air ballon was a highlight which no-one should miss (although it was expensive!). All in all, a fantastic holiday!!

Very Best of Kenya with Mombasa
This rating is solely in respect of the safari element of the holiday which was excellent in all aspects including the wildlife, accommodation and food.
The extension in Mombasa, if it was possible to rate this separately, would have scored 3 stars at most. The resort didn’t seem to know we were arriving and we had a lengthy wait for accommodation to be found. The half board package only includes the Horizon dining area - the 2 a la carte restaurants are at an additional cost and the other 2 “restaurants” are the Poolside Bistro and beach front pizza parlour. The food in the Horizon was appalling being cold and with many options empty and no-one seemingly responsible for re-filling them. A tremendous disappointment after the excellence of the safari with the resort as a whole being described by one of our fellow tourists as “Butlinesque”.

Splendours of Kerala with Beach Extension
All the staff we spoke to were very pleasant and they are clearly knowledgeable. Vania was particularly helpful. I would say they could come back to clients a tiny bit quicker and occasionally the attention to detail could be better e.g. the deposit amount mentioned by one member of staff was insufficient. Overall, a very good customer experience.
