Tiffin translates into ‘a light mid-day meal’. Enjoying it with curry on Sunday was an essential aspect of colonial life in the early 20th century, with Raffles Hotel serving it since 1899. To recognise this tradition, the main dining room was officially named Tiffin Room in 1976.
The late afternoon light meal at the Tiffin Room offers guests a delightful spread of savouries and sweets, complemented by an extensive selection of teas and coffees. Delicate finger sandwiches, mini pastries and warm scones with thick clotted cream and homemade jams adorn a silver three-tier afternoon tea set. In a perfect act of balance, warm local delights are also exquisitely created to take guests on a cultural mind trip from the tranquillity of English afternoon tea to the unique flavours of Southeast Asia.
PLEASE NOTE: From July 2017 until early-2019, Raffles Hotel is undergoing a rolling programme of refurbishment works and this optional excursion may not be available until the work is finished. Please enquire for further details.
