Bay of Islands – Cultural Waka (canoe) Tour

The Bay of Islands Cultural Waka tour is an interactive Waka canoe experience that provides a rare and unique insight into the Maori ancient customs, rituals and traditions.

During this Maori Waka tour you will meet with local Ngapuhi whose traditional knowledge and storytelling skills are legendary in the Bay of Islands. Their ancient histories and stories are shared with you as they paddle together aboard a 50 ft Waka Taua (Maori War Canoe) on the tidal estuaries of the Waitangi River.

For an authentic insight to this country’s age-old traditions, we highly recommend this informative and enchanting Waka Tour.

  • The organisation and communication were first class. The flexibility in travelling to the destination was impressive and the hotels where we stayed  in were all of a good standard. Our Coach was driven by Ken, who was a character and nothing was too much for him.

  • We both enjoyed the Magnificent New Zealand holiday immensely. The Coach Driver/Tour Guide was excellent and the hotels were really comfortable. The holiday was extremely good value and I would recommend it to anyone waning to taste the Antipodean holiday experience.
